What is it and is it right for you?
Applied Role Playing Games (A-RPGs) are a fun and engaging way for kids and emerging adults to make friends, develop social skills, and overcome challenges. (And maybe fight a few dragons along the way!)
A-RPGs use Tabletop Roleplaying systems (like Dungeons & Dragons) in a safe, structured environment to help participants de-stress, grow, and thrive.
What does a A-RPG session look like? Four to six players will meet with an A-RPG facilitator once a week for 90 minutes online over a video call. The facilitator is a trained adult who specializes in imaginative storytelling and working with adolescents.
During the session, participants will craft individualized characters, adventure into the unknown, and fight monsters in a digital gaming experience. Sessions will focus on participant's individualized goals like learning to cope with stress, working on social skills, or flexing imaginative muscles.
Who could benefit from Applied Gaming? Playing games is good for the mind and soul, so we think A-RPGs are a great fit for almost everybody. If you are looking for a good, healthy adventure for yourself or your child, A-RPGs are an excellent choice.
We also offer specialized groups for a variety of populations:
• LGBTQIA+
• Trans, Nonbinary, or Gender Questioning
• Neurodiverse

What is a Tabletop Roleplaying Game? Tabletop Roleplaying Games (TTRPGs) are a form of collaborative storytelling game where players take on the persona of a character (sometimes called a "player character") and explore an imaginary world through narration and, sometimes, through the use of dice, battle maps, miniatures, and more!
Though they have traditionally been played around a large table (that's where the “tabletop” comes from), advances in software and technology have allowed for digital “tabletops” to span across timezones and continents.
How does an applied game differ from a casual TTRPG? From the outside, an A-RPG often looks very much like a casual game – that's by design! One of the hallmarks of the applied gaming method is how it leverages existing gaming structures to help participants achieve their goals.
The work of a trained gaming facilitator to create space for thoughtful reflection, intentional gameplay scenarios, and goal setting elevates a game to applied status.
What skills can applied gaming help foster? Participants report a wide range of skills that A-RPGs can help with.
Here's a sampling:
• Learning to take the perspectives of others
• Improving frustration tolerance
• Cultivating communication and collaboration skills
• Developing creative problem-solving skills
Finances: Cost per session: $100 per 90-minute session. Participants register for a season of groups which typically range from 9 to 12 sessions.
Adjusted rates available. Please email to inquire.
How much experience in gaming is required? None! Your facilitator will provide all the tools, information, and guidance you need to get up and running in your games.
Alternatively, if you're already a seasoned TTRPG pro, we'll get you set up in a game that allows you to flex your skills!
Is there a interview or intake process? Once you've joined the waitlist on our website, we'll be in touch to schedule a 15-30 minute free consultation to see if applied gaming is a good fit. Consultations can happen over the phone or via video conference.
Participants and caregivers are both encouraged to attend.
Do I need a diagnosis to attend a group? No diagnosis is required. Applied gaming groups are therapeutically informed, but they are not therapy. Commonly supported populations include participants with autism, ADHD, anxiety, depression, and more.
How long do session last? Sessions are offered on a rolling basis and last 90 minutes. They are offered in monthly (4 week) and quarterly (9-12 week) seasons.
Where do sessions take place? Sessions take place online over video conferencing software (Google Meet). A device with a webcam and a microphone is required to participate.
